Protected no claims bonus?

I currently have 8 years no claims on my car insurance and have protected no claims. However 9 months ago i had a bump in the car and had to claim. Now my insurance is due for renewal, and have been told by a friend to expect my premium to go up quite a lot, despite the protected no claims. Therefore i am planning on shopping around. When i am asked if i have claimed in last 3 years, do i answer yes? How do i show my no claims was protected??
Advice much appreciated

Your claim history is a separate issue to your NCD.
You do have to disclose all incidents/claims/losses.
Although it is likely that your claim will impact on your premium, as you protected your NCD this won't be impacted, and you will still get the full discount knocked off.0 -
example.
Premium before accident £1000 NCD 50% pay £500
Premium after accident £2000 NCD 50% pay £1000.
Statistics say you had one incident you are more likely to have more so now a higher risk.
You still get your no claims discount.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
