if its metronidazole its not worth the risk, wait until 48 hours after finishing the course then eat the meal.
The reason people are told not to drink with it is because Metronidazole + alcohol has the possibility to cause a reaction similar to the drug used to encourage people to stop drinking. It blocks the enzyme which breaks the alcohol down, so you get much higher concentrations of the alcohol than if you drank it without the metronidazole. This can cause an immediate severe reaction which feels like a severe hangover (raised heart rate, short of breath, nausea, vomiting, headaches, confusion and can cause psychosis).
Obiviously this is less likely as most of the alcohol should have evaporated but all the GPs we have been taught by are really really keen on making sure the patient knows not to touch alcohol when taking the medication0 -

What temperature does a slow cooker cook at? I'd have thought there would be very little alcohol left after 6 hours cooking!!Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0

grapefruit can be on the label for a number of drugs - mentioning just confused the issue sorry!
I'd still ring NHS direct and get a definitive answer.:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
No, I don't think it will all burn off. There was a bit on QI a while back about this, saying that actually more alcohol evaporates off if you leave it overnight than during cooking.
Have just found a page here whichgives the retention rate depending on how you cook.

However, surely if you're cooking it in the slow cooker the alcohol won't have a chance to evaporate off; won't it just condense and drip back into the stew?
I think you're wise not to risk it.NSD May 1/150 -
