The most recent example was buying JPM Natural Resources fund for my SIPP at the top of the market a year or so ago. Currently 33% down.
I've not sold so technically not lost anything however expect to wait a long time for recovery.

This is a mental tester alright for the passive investor approach, are you still buying into this fund on the lows by drip feeding through this?
If this fund was to rise the low cost buys during this low would be beneficial. This is a big test I guess during a big drop so interested to hear if you are still buying through the lows now?

Buying Bradford and Bingley shares just before they went under
Buying Minmet shares before they were taken over and didn't have enough to benefit
Buying Egg shares, mind you they are now prudential which are doing quite well so not really a mistake0 -
Not looking at what a fund was invested in. Bought Invesco Europe and Europe Small Companies for diversification whilst the tech bubble was rising only to find after the bubble burst that they had largely invested in European tech shares: 75% drop in price.0

When my husband was about to retire several years ago, I strongly recommended selling our Halifax privatisation shares. He was insistant that we keep them - banks will never go bust ...............!!!
At their highest the shares were worth £17,000.
We're now left with a few hundred Lloyds TSB shares, worth less than £1000.0
