If you are on adsl (BT phone line), the password will be in your router config.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

If you have not yet signed up with an ISP for an email account then you cannot use any software to download emails from that account, as part of the retrieval process involves checking that you have supplied the correct password.
Contact your ISP, and tell them that you need to setup an email account (often easiest done via their customer support web page). They will send you a letter with your account name and password etc, plus all the other settings you will need to tell your email software how to collect your emails.
Alternatively, double-check the original letter that they sent you when you first signed up with your ISP - you will probably find that they have automatically assigned you an email account, and the details are on the letter.
Finally, if you want to setup a separate email account for your daughter (and you already have one for yourself), tell us the name of your ISP and we will be able to point you to their help page which tells you how to add a second email address.0 -

Maybe I was a little un specific with the thread
I was with Telewest for about 6 years then about 6 or 8 months ago they were taken over by Virgin Media
I have used E-Mail for all this time with an address ending @blueyonder.co.uk and had no probs
I set up a router about 3 months ago and my daughter can use the net no probs
However today I tried to get her an E-Mail address and could not complete the process
On the self care page for Virgin it hints that all addresses will migrate across to Virgin addresses in time but that all accounts should still work just now
My own E-Mail still works fine
Finally I sent a query to Virgins Technical help people but have had no reply as yet
Thanks for replying0 -
No problem.
First you have to add a new email address to your account (each Virgin customer can have multiple email addresses). Go to the link below -
http://www.virginmedia.com/help/email.php?category=portal&app=helpemail
click on the link under 'Manage your email account' that says "setup, add or modify", and enter your own email address and password. From there, you will be able to choose a new email address for your daughter.
Once you have done that, I will assume that you will be using Outlook Express to send and receive emails on your daughter's PC. The link below will give you detailed instructions on how to do that -
http://www.virginmedia.com/help/support/solution.php?package=broadband&curTitle=Adding%20an email account to Outlook Express&lastLevel=<a href=broadband_cat_email.php>Email</a>&curURL=adding_an_account_to_oe_xp.html0 -
Hmmm - looks like the second link in my post above is too long for this site to handle. Not to worry - just click on the link below -
http://www.virginmedia.com/help/email.php
then in the section marked 'How-to tutorials' click on the link marked 'Add an email account in Outlook' (the instructions actually refer to Outlook Express, which is almost certainly installed on your daughter's PC and is adequate for the job).0 -

Just got youre reply
I will try this
Her laptop has vista insatlled and the E-Mail is something like Windows Mail or Microsoft Mail
Whatever came after Outloook Express 6
Are the links still valid for this
Thanks again0 -
Yes, the process is the same. The look and feel of the new Vista program is slightly different, but the questions and answers are the same as for Outlook Express (from memory - I don't currently have Vista installed on any of my PCs)0

Ta for that I will try it in the morning0
