Wouldn't even waste the money on a pre-mot check.

Put it through it's MOT and see what it fails on - then just get that part fixed. Will save you money in the long run - what if there was nothing wrong with the car? You will have just wasted £70+ at a garage being told there was nothing wrong with it.
I don't even bother getting mine undersprayed anymore - 5 years in a row it has gone through it's MOT like this and been fine saving me around a tenner a time.

And i take it if it were fail, you are lucky enough to have access to another car to drive for the couple of weeks whilst you book it in with your mechanic, get the faults fixed and get another MOT date?

Maybe not everyone is that fortunate?

because you drive a particular brand of vehicle you obvioulsy must be rolling in money.

It was your decision to buy a 'upmarket' run around, that blue and white badge is a status symbol..and you know fine well it is.

you know absolutely nothing about me or my circumstances. Should I assume from your username, that you have made your money easily?

Yes that's right, I know nothing about your circumstances, except for the fact you can afford to run a BMW 3 series,
but by the same token, you are assuming a lot about me .................just from a username?!!!!!

most people I know do not want to spend more money than they have to for any services nowadays.

That's a fair point, but there is no such thing as cheap motoring in the modern world. With all modern cars you are held over a barrel due to the vehicles computer.

BMW's have a chip in the key which contains all the vital information about your vehicle diagnostics.
You can't expect a back street garage to have up to date technology to deal with this? The technology cost thousands and is constantly changing with each model
At some point, you will need to call on the BMW dealerships to get the vehicle daignostics sorted at £70+ an hour labour.

If in your opinion Martin Lewis is quote, "a tight @ RSE" unquote, that is up to you.

I would imagine Martins quality of life has improved somewhat since making his millions, I dont think he is bean counting, continues to give sound advice.

A friend happens to think all BMW drivers are pretentious pr!ck$, but they are entitled to their opinion too.

Good luck with the MOT :)

    I drive a BMW.

Was cheaper to buy then the ford focus I was looking to buy

Came with 5 years of free servicing as well

Not to mention zero road tax and 58 mpg

    Pretty mse to me

Yeah right, who are you trying to kid. It's a false economy

Nothing is free, it's all in the price

You bought a new motor, costing many thousands just to save a few hundred a year on road tax and x amount on your fuel bills.

You would need to be doing big miles just for the vehicle to pay for itself, maybe in about ten plus years you will get your money back?

I have to agree with this, its a false economy not to have the vehicle serviced properly at the recommended intervals,
shows ignorance and lack of mechanical sympathy

    A bargain tbh

You really appear to have a problem with BMWs so I won't mention my other car is a merc ;)

Oh and yeah I do big miles

Good luck with the MOT :)

I've owned, bought and sold various BMWs over the last 20 years or so, and i can genuinely say i have NEVER needed to go to a main dealer because only they had the diagnostics. Indeed if there had been such a scenario it would have been as likely that you would have needed to take a Vauxhall or Peugeot to a main dealer under the same circumstances.

I've an 04 320d at the minute. As it happens its a trade in from a deal i did and i'm driving it myself.

Just got it serviced and MOT prepped by the guy who does all the cars i sell. Probably no less or more expensive than another other 120K diesel saloon car for the work it needed.

Do i consider it 'special'? No.

Is it any better than say, an equivalent passat? No.

Do people look at it and say 'wow that guys made it - he drives a BMW' No.

HOWEVER, i like the fact its rear wheel drive, i believe the cars have a more sporting focus than most other cars in their peer group and they cabins tend to be a nice place to be. The one i have is particularly basic and really isnt all that though. It wouldnt have been my first choice of car, but as i said it came to me as a trade in.

To be honest, i think your attitude to BMW's has a lot more to do with issues you have, than issues a BMW driver might have.

Certainly any car i've ever bought to drive myself i've done so because it impresses me, not because it impresses other people. If it happens to f uck people like you off, i guess thats just an added bonus.

    Near enough new?!!
Care to disclose the actual cost of your ex-demo, just to define what a bargain is.

BMW drivers think they own the road, Merc drivers actually do own the road

You obviously have been extremely lucky, a modern beamer is a different breed than a 20yr old one

Trade?!!! more like wheeler dealer from your driveway

If my attitude is bad (as you so politely put it in the last line of your previous post!!!!) yours is appalling......... spoken like a true BMW driver (a wanna be) with need to justify your mere existence and presence on the road..........over compensating for something else perhaps?!!!!

Yep near enough new yet was a better deal on the trade in then ford were giving us.

As with motorguy we don't consider the car to be superior to any other. We too were looking at the passat but for pure driving pleasure I think it would be hard to beat. The cabin is basic to look at but so ergonomic driving a 500mile trip is nothing. Me and the oh fight for the keys on a long journey

We don't own the road either in the BMW or the merc, but we are very amused by the amount of drivers who will pull out in front of us when we are overtaking and slow down to 50 mph. Now I guess they think they own the road
