Potentially misleading Energy provider searches in moneysupermarket

I searched for Energy providers and ticked boxes "online", "Fixed" and "capped".
I assumed this would give me online fixed and capped tarrifs only.In fact it gives you all online tarrifs. Not realising this I selected "Online October 2013" from Npower - thinking it was fixed until october 2013. Unfortunately it is still a variable tarrif, just cheaper than standard.:(


I know it comes down to careful reading of small print etc. but I thought it's worth being aware that if the headline doesn't say "fixed" then it will be VARIABLE.

Since 'fixed' and 'capped' tariffs are mutually exclusive, wouldn't that be obvious?

I don't really understand the difference between fixed and capped to be honest, so no, not to me.

Fixed means the rate does not change during the term, eg if you are on a fixed rate, when the news articles arrive to say energy prices have increased, then it does not affect the subscriber.
Capped is variable but will not increase above a certain level, but can reduce.
