Which laptop - Acer or Asus?

Options
Hi all,

I have been thinking of getting the following laptop:

http://www.simplyacer.com/Acer_Aspire_V3-571G_1266041.html

However, I have also seen these:

http://www.simplyasus.com/ASUS_K55VD-SX494H_1337330.html

http://www.simplyasus.com/ASUS_K55VD-SX696H_1336279.html

I am looking for opinions on which one to get.

Thanks.

Go for Asus, Acer machines seem to have high spec for the price but get marked down for build quality in reviews.
"When one thinks of Acer, good build quality isn’t usually the first thing that comes to mind" is typical.

Consider an i7 rather than i5,

I've had many Acer's with no problems and the fact that it has a graphics card too (sort of) and the nice amount of RAM, I'd go for the Acer. Also, don't go for an i7 unless you intend on doing processor intensive stuff (like rendering video files and whatnot), total waste of money. Any i5 laptop is going to be fast, one that has more RAM and dedicated graphics will always blow the competition away.

EDIT: Just to add further to the i5 - i7 debate, my desktop runs an i5 as I use it for general stuff and gaming only and it is equally as fast as if not more so an i7. Only get an i7 if you're into video editing and stuff.

    Thanks for your replies.

I was thinking of the Acer still, however there Asus one is 100 mhz faster clock speed - will this be noticeably different?

I second the comment about the Acer build quality, not known to be very good in that department and I get quite a few of them come to me at around 18 months old having gone wrong.

The Acer is cheaper but IMO and from experience won't last as long as the ASUS. Cheaper price usually means cheaper parts.

I would go with the £469 ASUS over the more expensive one, the larger HDD and twice the RAM is more usefull than the 100MHz clock increase. Neither of them tell you the HDD speed which is a shame. They both have dedicated GPU's but to be brutally honest a Laptop should never really be considered as a proper games machine, they are really underpowered compared the desktops in that regard. Again the ASUS has more video memory than the Acer although it has a slower GPU but if you are just browsing the net and watching films etc either would be fine. Both of them would be average for games.
