First Utility Deposit

Hi, I applied to switch to FU and was told that after a credit check I would have to pay a £300 security deposit, refundable after 3 or 6 months - I forget which. I have checked my credit file and it is clean, as it should be. Is this standard practice for FU - they seem to have a few complaints being thrown their way looking at this forum.

Any help would be appreiated

Quite normal for them. If you don't like it then don't pay and switch away straight away. First:Utility is quite cheap but only if you stay for 12 months and meet all the terms and conditions exactly....i.e never ever miss a direct debit payment or you will lose the annual discount.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
