Please help! NIP hell!!

Heya,

I received NIP for speeding in my local area (it is well known that the camera is faulty) never the less I sent off a letter asking to go on a speed awareness course as it was my first offence and I was going 6 miles over the speed limit (apparently)

Whilst waiting for this letter back, I receive another NIP for a totally different area!!!!!

Will I be able to go on a course for the first offence and just take the points for the second offence? Or do I have to have 6 points?

Please help as I cannot afford insurance with 6 points!!

Any help will be gratefully received :)

Thanks

So why are you asking for the awareness course instead of just going to court and declaring the ticket void as the camera is faulty? Seriously, just contest the ticket and ask for the photographic evidence of the car from both shots. Being faulty, the camera will have recorded you incorrectly but lucky for you those white marks on the road (which they use to double check the speed via a quick calculation before sending you the NIP) will prove you are completely innocent. I'm sure the judge will agree and quash the case.

Don't speed then! Stop risking other peoples lives in the belief that you and your journey time are more important than other peoples lives! There, see I've helped

In the meantime, head over to another site called peppipoo who have experts at defending against these.

They will be treated as separate offences.

ie. The decision on whether or not you are offered a course won't be influenced by your second offence.

Do some dummy quotes online to see what difference 0/3/6 points makes to the premium. Then at least you will know the worst.

Usually the rules are that you will only be offered a second speed awareness course if the offences are over three years apart. I suppose it is remotly possible that the second might be offered before the first is logged on the system, I doubt it.
  • So it looks like 6 points then?

Might declare my car SORN and get a bus instead :P

I would have thought that you can still take the course for the first incident but as warwacktiger says, you will probably have to take the 3 points for the second.
  • Thank you all! Going to be very careful from now on I think!!

    Greatly appreciated!

Indeed sir, 'everybody' speeds but if you can't notice those big yellow boxes and the lines on the roads, then what can anybody say?
Look at it another way, even if it takes 10 minutes to travel through the detection zone, it is still less time than filling out the forms and all the agro that follows.

In what way is the camera faulty? Automated cameras are required to be able to have a secondary check so if the camera is faulty, the secondary check will not agree with the camera.

It doesn't really work like that. The photos could still be taken, and it would rely on someone in the office to notice the discrepancies. My dad got a NIP from a Gato for doing 48 in a 30; when he received the photos and we calculated the speed, he was doing 24-26.

OP, if it's a Gatso, ask for photos to help identify the driver, and then you can work out the correct speed.

No, what I said is that the requirement is for the ability for a secondary check to be performed which is correct I didn't say anything about one being performed every time because despite it being claimed they do it's blatantly obvious they don't.

I agree the OP should request the pictures although the way I read it, they've already identified themselves and were asking for a speed awareness course which seemed a big strange if being caught by a camera that's well known to be faulty. The camera doesn't have to be a Gatso though to check the camera is correct, as I said the requirement is for all of them to be able to have the speed verified separately so for some it's two photos a set time apart and for others like the Truvelo it's checking the vehicle's front wheels are perfectly within the three lines.
