Car Insurance

My daughter has written off her car and has been told by her insurer Hastings direct that she has to pay the remainder of her insureance before they can proceed with the claim.
Her policy was a pay monthly policy by DD no arrears on payments.
Is this standard practice bearing in mind she has no car to drive and may not have one for some months untill the claim is settled as she cant just go out and buy another car shortage of cash lol.
Also she has NC protection and hire car included in the policy but as the car is written of they say they are not obliged to give her a hire car only if damage is repaireable.

Why will it take months to get paid if it has already been written off?
Normally the outstanding premium will be deducted from the settlement.
(Is the premium due worth more than the car?)
Regarding the hire car, check the policy wording on what circs the car is provided.0 -
Have a read of this link which will give you good advice about the write off, there is a passage that explains about the deduction for the remaining instalments which is standard practice.
"17. outstanding premium instalments or premium refunds
Usually the policy is a yearly contract and the full premium is payable even if the vehicle is written-off during the year. If the policyholder paid the yearly premium up-front, no refund is due. If the policyholder was paying the yearly premium by monthly instalments, the outstanding instalments are still payable."

To be fair im just assuming it wont be a fast payment as my past dealings with insureance firms have always taken a long time.As for what is outstanding on the policy i dont know but i will ask her.

Is the car worth a lot more than the policy excess + balance of the premium though?
Was the accident her fault or claiming from a 3rd party?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Written off for hitting a kerb?
If the value was borderline you could cancel the claim and pay for the repairs which will cost a lot less than the insurance quote for repairs.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
