25k is about 2084 miles per month, which means you claim £375 in mileage allowance, takeaway your £180 'profit' means the cost of the 2084 mils is £195 divide this by call it £1.40/L thats 139 litres or 31 gallons or around 67mpg.

My bro used to get less mileage rate for diesel 13p/mile than for petrol.
We get the same rate 28p/mile irrespective of fuel.

I trust you claim back via the HRMC P87 form?

Thanks all..I think so far based on everything I've heard/read both from here and friends etc for now I'm leaning towards petrol..seems that my mileage at the moment doesn't require a diesel, I think perhaps If I was doing daily mileage of 70miles+ I'd be more inclined. As far as my friends offer for the 1.6 FSI golf I feel the mileage on that (112k) is too high, I'm gonna have to turn it down sadly..I will let you guys know how my search gets on!
