    It's retail and I'm over 18.
Have I got this right if you work a 12 hour shift your only entitled to a 20 min break same as someone who works a 6 hour shift? That can't be right surely

    What is right is:

Someone expected to work exactly 6 hours (or less) is not entitled to any break under WTRs.

Having a shift which lasts over 6 hours gives an entitlement to 20 minutes during the course of the shift (ie not very near the beginning or end of it).

There is no statutory right to a second 20-minute break after twelve hours (The Corps of Commissionaires Management v Hughes UKEAT/0196/08/CEA

The rest break does not have to be paid. The regulations provide that breaks can be deferred and compensated later where “the worker’s activities involve the need for continuity of service”. However, employers cannot under-staff to avoid giving workers breaks.

It is right, I've already checked this in the last few weeks with ACAS.

When I worked for Safeway, the minimum shift was 4 hours and we got 14 mins break. 6 hours got a 30 mins break. 8 hours got 1hr and 2x15 mins break. Above that was still 1 hour and 2 x 15 mins breaks.

The job I'm in now tried to get me to take only 30mins when working 8am til 5pm. My offer letter from them stated a one hour break, and I have made sure I take that break or they pay me it as overtime x
Can't think of anything smart to put here...

You are entitled to 20 mins after 6 hours. What's in your offer or contract can better this but that's the law.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

No. 20 minutes after 6 hours. How many more times? Unless your own contract says otherwise.

not all companies get the same. In my place if we did a fifteen hour shift it is still only 30mins as per our policy.
