Hi all,
Is anyone up on trade plate rules?
Is it acceptable for a car dealership to send you out on a test drive on one trade plate displayed in the front windscreen of the car without anyone with you from the supplying dealership?

Not all trade policies require the dealer to be in the car.0

LOL
I don't know, when I test drove the model we eventually bought the dealer let me take it out without anyone from there in the car, and I was in my twenties.
Mind you at the time I did have both may parents (one on crutches*) with me, and left a more expensive car on their forecourt
Re the op.
I'm not sure, but I'm fairly sure the dealer plates have some quite strict conditions applied to their use, in part because people did used to abuse them a lot, although as arcon5 says, it could depend on the policies the dealer uses.
*It was important she could get in it comfortably.0 -
Dont forget to shout powerrrrrrr whilst doing it.
Had a dealer do the same to me. Wasnt sure if he wanted me to steal the car?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Trade plates should be displayed front and rear, and you don't have to have a member of staff from the dealership in there
with you, but you should not stop on the test drive, as it should be one continuous Motor Trade journey - and the dealership must have Unaccompanied Demo cover too, if they are relying on your Driving Other Cars extension on your private car policy, they are taking a major risk, as are you - many private car policies are now doing away with this "extra". Even if you are bessie mates with a car salesman, you still need to make sure Unaccompanied Demo is included on their insurance.
I have too many that say they'll only let a car go out unaccompanied, because they know the prospective purchaser, they are more worried about the car being nicked, I'm telling them the prospective purchaser has no cover, and they can be done for an IN12, and the driver for an IN10. It is an uphill struggle, but I will persevere.0 -

There would be special reasons not to prosecute the purchaser.0 -

Can you expand on that please.
As a total aside, our local dealer often takes 6 cars at a time to their storage premises, front trade plate on the first car, and rear plate on car No 6. The devil in me wants to pull out at the end of my road into the side of car No 3 or 4, just to see what would happen. Yes, I am a catankerous old bint!0 -

You do realise that trade plates aren't insurance don't you?0
