Earlier poster is right, this has no relevance to under occupancy.

However, I do know of one housing association who have reclassified 500 of their 3 bedroom properties to 2 bedroom because of the bedroom tax. They have decided the take the hit on the rental loss attached to re designating them.

I doubt if this will happen elsewhere though as most housing associations won't do this because their business plan won't support it ( funders / bankers won't allow)

  • Not sure that you all know the answers. I am sure someone will take them to task over it.
Lets wait and see. I just love it on here how a chosen few love to quash any glim of light just to satisfy their delight in giving bad news. None of you know the answer really, any more than I do, so don't pretend that you all have a special insight into all the rules and regulations. You are in possession of the same information as everyone else, how you read it is just different.
For Gods sake why must you blow out any glimmer of hope that might be there for some people. Clearly it's a case again of you not being affected so you are only too pleased that others are suffering.

Some of us have a professional insight into the subject, from a welfare benefits and/ or legal background.

No one is delighting in giving bad news, but rather stopping people getting their hopes up by pursuing a line of argument that will lead nowhere.

Not true, I would love to offer a glimmer of hope. However, I do have professional insight and this was raised last year and quashed. Unless the rules change, this will not happen.

I find your attitude strange, I have great sympathy and hold training sessions for tenants groups and housing managers on how the reforms will impact both on tenants, the business and communities so do have a little knowledge

Families in council homes only or private rental too?
Tomorrow is the most important thing in life
  • I find that unbelievable as most houses have bedrooms in that range. e.g. the smallest there, 50 sq ft, could be 7' square - certainly larger than the bedroom I had at my parents' home. As for 70 sq ft, that's just under 9' square - certainly larger than a lot of 1-bed homes' largest bedroom! In fact, given half an hour and Rightmove I bet a group of keen MSE'ers could find whole 3-bed houses where all three bedrooms were under 70 sq ft. And probably 99% of park homes have all bedrooms under that size.

our park home main bedroom is 110`sq,the second bedroom though is just over the 70`

The ruling for dissabled children already applies to LHA/private pending DWP appeal to Supreme court and a directive has been issued accordingly since last May when our judgement was handed down from the Court of Appeal in this regard. So any family with a severely disabled child who is not getting a separate room rate for them SHOULD BE regardless of age/gender etc.

We are awaiting confirmation and legal advice on the way forward for families with disabled children and social housing.

I find your attitude strange as well, it always amazes me how when someone tries to offer some useful information there is always a do gooder who knows a little about every thing and a lot about nothing who know better.

I have since been told that the local council in a certain area are taking up the issue, so it would appear as though it depends on individual councils whether they accept that people have a case.

I don't much care whether you find my attitude strange or not, at least I am offering some information of some value however small.

What a load of old bull, most of the stalwart members on here can't wait to put a dampener on any positive news, it's a power thing.
