Start looking for another job ?
Would they do this is they valued him ?

Apart from maybe not telling him suspension is not a punishment but a neutral act.

    So yes they would.

Just needed to know if it was wise without union assistance

If he has union membership, inform them of the suspension and ask if he can be accompanied to any meetings. Don't leave it to management to inform him - they will have their own agenda here.

    Hardly a neutral act ?
One certainly designed to pee off the employee and one an employer who valued a worker would never make as you would not risk loosing them.

    losing*

So you would allow an employee to carry on working if you felt you needed to investigate a serious matter?

What if that serious matter involves other employees (like this one does)? What if the accused tries to intimidate the other employee?

Its a neutral act as best it can be, its there to make sure that things can be investigated thoroughly without contamination of the issue.

It's not a good company to work for and even agency work is hard to come by around here.
Union have been informed. It's just the sudden weekend meeting seemed a bit dodgy at first. Ah well,if it's within their rights to do this so be it.

When something is alleged to have happen then the only thing any decent employer can do is suspend someone on full pay. Yes it can be hard for the employee concerned but even if the allegations are found to be true then dismissal may not always happen.

Does he work on a weekend normally? If so then its not an issue really. If its not a normal work day then he should ask for it to be moved to one that is.

It's a normal work day for the company, but not a work day for him.
The threat of nopay means he will have togo.

Contact TU re this. Meetings are normally convened during normal working days.

Do local arrangements provide for representation at this meeting?
