immersion heater installation cost...?

We don't have an IH at present and were thinking of getting one installed. I noticed you can pick IHs up for under £25 - so that makes the £325 I've had quoted for install seem quite steep; considering apparently it can be 'plugged in' without a system drain down etc.

Any ideas of what I should expect to pay..anyone had this done?

Dunno where you got that idea
Thats the longest part of the job draining out the HW cylinder...

I take it as there isnt one there you dont have an electric point there for an immersion heater and so a new cable needs to be run to your consumer unit??
And then is there a spare point on your consumer unit to take the immersion heater??

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
    Our IH is not working.
In the airing cupboard there is the HW tank and on the back wall a swith with an little orange light just above. But when we swithc it on nothign happens. I am not 100% sure that there is actually an element in the tank. (cant see) all there is on the front is a roundish brass plate and a small tap (to drain the tank?)

how much would I expect to pay to have one changed/ put it?

Thanks r_p - it's quite possible I may have got the wrong end of the stick. The tank has a port for an IH. Nearby on the wall there are electric points for the pump/control box. Next week (4 days before boiler work) we're having a new 12 position (4 spare) distribution board fitted, switched fused boiler spur, and other work done. I've just got them to quote for the IM as well so we can have back-up HW - but £320 seems steep - but maybe not...

Thanks EH, that's a lot better - about two-thirds less. It looks like we'll be without HW for a couple of days, during the boiler work, unless I can find someone to do it in the next two weeks
