yes you can but only for contribution based jsa. This lasts 6mths after that you would be national ins credits only should you still be unemployed. You will have to have paid enought national contributions in the last two tax years. Claim even if unsure.0

Are you thinking for yourself IA after your maternity stops? If you are and you have a job to go back to, it will be seen that you have given up work of your own accord and you are likely to be *sanctioned* for so long. Having said that I didn't return to my job and some months later I applied for JSA contribution based and gave my reasons for not returning to that job and it was paid whilst my claim went to a decision maker. Before I was informed of outcome I had found a job.
Like said though you have had to pay enough NI contributions in last couple of years to qualify.0 -

Well my maternity leave finished yesterday but I couldn't go back because my boss wanted to cut my hours and I couldn't find childcare for what they needed so I was kind of forced out..Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

That is similar to my circs when I got JSA. I left because the cost of childcare would have taken all my wages but when my nan moved to my town some months later and offered to babysit, and this combined with my husbands job becoming more unstable made me claimn. Have you paid enough NI in the qulifying years though?immoral_angeluk wrote: »Well my maternity leave finished yesterday but I couldn't go back because my boss wanted to cut my hours and I couldn't find childcare for what they needed so I was kind of forced out..0 -
You would need to explain that and it depends what your employer says, the reason she gives for terminating your employment. It does get looked out and goes to an independant decision maker. However your reasons sound fair she wanted to cut your hours. In order to claim jsa you need to be actively seeking full-time work. So you would say to the decision maker that you couldnt afford to take less hours. You need full time work. You have what they call a permitted period for 13 wks saying what hours you can do and how much money you require. Just go for it you have worked so its your right to claim.:) you can only try.0

It might not even go before a decision maker....When you see an adviser they send a form out to your employer asking why you left to see if you left voluntary. This was a change in your contact so it could be perceived to be different:)0

My sister claimed for 6 months at the end of last year and her husband was working. No worries as she was never out of work in all the23 years . Thankfully she is now in full time employment:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling0
