Old Account book found

Hi, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong area but just need some information. My OH found his old Leeds Permanent Building Society "Young Leeder" account book at his mums. The account was never closed and still had money in it the last time the book was updated (26/04/1991). We know that this building society was taken over by the Halifax. What I want to know is, how can my OH find out more information about the account 16 years on (if still open or closed - how much is in the account now etc, etc)?
Any Help would be very much appreciated.

My guess would be to ask the Halifax ... what's yours?

yup, ask halifax you will probably need to take in some form of id and your mum will have to come with you too with id if she opened the account and is signatory to it. i had an account similar but not with halifax and this is what i had to do... bit embarrasing having to take your mum with you especially as i was pushing 40 at the time:eek:

The answer's on the Savings & Investments board, someone was asking the same question the other day.

There's a useful link to give details online, which I used myself (then sit back for six weeks, it says...)

If your OH was over 18 when Halifax demutualized in 97/98 then he might be in for some Halifax shares too. Worth checking out...

    Hope this helps!
