Bank deposited money in my account after enquiring about a loan without my consent...
I enquired about what the repayments would be on a loan, didn't sign anything as I was just enquiring and left the bank to think about it. I went to the cashpoint the day after and the money had appeared in my account (surely this is illegal?)
I went back to the bank to complain and they took the money back, apologised and insisted my account was now correct this was a few years ago I was quite young and didn't think much of it. Now the bank has contacted me recently stating I had paid PPI on this loan....I didn't sign for any loan let alone agree to PPI for it....does this mean I will receive a PPI payment for their incompetence? If not can I complain to somebody regarding the fact they did all this without my consent????

If it was a mistake at the time and the money was taken back - what exactly are you wanting to complain about ?
Did you actually make any repayments on the loan at the time ? If you did and you paid any PPI, then you MAY have grounds for a refund ... but from what you say it doesn't sound likely.0 -

It will be an automated letter sent out to every customer who had a loan with PPI. Bin it. You aren't due anything unless you actually paid anything.0

It was a mistake, nothing more nothing less, cant see it being illegal though.0 -
Thought a forum was a place you could ask a genuine question without being abused.....obviously not....crediting someone's account without consent I thought is slightly wrong.....but obviously I'm just stupid!0

The loan was for 7k yet they have told me over the phone I repaid 7256....at the time a large sum appeared in my account, I made them aware, they took the money back, but took more than they credited putting me overdrawn, which i thought they had sorted out to my original sum but it now transpires they took more.
In my area of work if u do something without consent it's illegal, unless its an emergency....0 -

In real life its call an admin error, and the bank should and will put the situation right, and give you compensation to cover any expenses you have occurred sorting it out, and maybe a discretionary £50 or £100 if it is a bad error.0 -

If there's been an error and you're out of pocket then that should be corrected. So ask the bank to do this.
You want back £256 plus any overdraft charges triggered by the incident plus an amount for compensation.
And next time deal with it there and then. Mistakes are much easier to investigate and resolve just after they've happened. Waiting several years is bonkers.Thought a forum was a place you could ask a genuine question without being abused.....obviously not.
Now you've introduced additional information about being out of pocket. If a bank makes an error (or behaves dubiously to hit a sales target) then you shouldn't have to pay for it.
Understand?0 -

If not ask for copies you never know you may find the extra paid back as well but under a separate transaction?0 -
If it's more than six years ago, any claim would be statute barred anyway."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0
