Hi,

Wondering if someone can help.

Got a right bit of confusion understanding my British Gas Meter Readings.

I'm on dual with BG, so my electricity is fine.

For example:-

Date Reading Usage (kWh)

01 Feb 2013 6852 310.0
01 Jan 2013 6542 330.0
04 Dec 2012 6212 319.0
01 Nov 2012 5893 271.0

and on and on

However, the Gas is another thing:-

Date Reading Usage (kWh)

01 Feb 2013 28457 3626.0
01 Jan 2013 28133 3131.0
4 Dec 2012 27854 3257.0
1 Nov 2012 27563 2239.0

I don't understand these usage amounts. Obviously you don't count the red counters either, not that this would make a difference, but do they just guess that to?

Anyone advise how this works? Or does that just seem to be wrong?

You need to check if the meter is metric or imperial and thenthis site will do the conversion from units to kwh for you http://www.energylinx.co.uk/gas_meter_conversion.html

I received the latest bill from British Gas for our gas supply just over a week ago.
It seems an updated format, but section 4 ("I'd like more detail - What am I paying for?") explains exactly how the gas kWh is calculated.

Electricity meter units are the same as billing units (kWh).
Gas meter units are volume only, either cubic m or 100's cubic ft-it tells you which on the meter.
For billing purposes the gas units are converted to kWh using a formula that is not constant, as it depends on the calorific value. The conversion is fully explained on your bill. To check it, all you need to know is whether your meter is metric or imperial.
