Bt yahoo mail page-help please

I checked my mail this morning as usual, sent one direct to spam from one 'Bryony Holt' as both sender and subject.
My page has now altered and I cannot get rid of this, which appears more than half-way up the page, so I see only 5 msgs at a time:
'Choose your favourite way to communicate', below which are 2 labelled ikons for Email [envelope] and Instant Message [speech bubble].
Further, the boxes alongside each mail have disappeared, only showing if if have mouse on a msg, Next, the option bar is now in greyscale, but for a dropdown Actions, which are: slim, regular[this is ticked], relaxed, enable preview panel[also ticked], then [greyscale italics] select a message for further action.
How do I put it back as it was - classic and basic, please?
BT Help Pages do not! - just self-puffery and pushery for 'services' I do not want. Also, the Contact Us/Help page gives this error message.
No data received
Unable to load the webpage because the server sent no data.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): The server closed the connection without sending any data.
I do not involve myself in social networks, do not want messenger, but cannot seem to excise constant talk of it.
Primus are my broadband provider, but I retain my BT landline.
All help will appreciated - thankyou.

I think BT-Yahoo have "improved" it for you.
What happens if you choose the email (since you don't use Instant Messenger) icon in response to that question?0 -
If you hover your mouse between the two panes you'll see you can change the size so you can make the bottom one much smaller. I haven't found how to get rid of it yet.
It also doesn't seem to do anything (other than annoy).0 -
Thankyou both.
Yes Jivesinger, I detest them fiddling about with my page which I set up as I want it.
al - there weren't any panes, BUT maybe this will help you too, for I have just now fixed it:-) Spent several hours yesterday faffing about trying various repair/restores. then checked the 'relaxed' box and it's back to normal, but for absence of tickboxes. One appears beside a msg when mouse is there, otherwise not. I don't like this but can live with it. I don't like absence of outlined searchbox on mse, top right corner either!CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:
