What happens when both TAX and MOT run out?

I was wondering what happens if both your tax and mot run out? You can't get tax without having MOT and you can't drive to MOT place if you don't have tax right? So what are you supposed to do?

No, you can drive to and from a prebooked MOT only without either.

As above but make sure you have insurance.

And then buy a 6 month tax disc to put them out of sync with each other, then 12 month discs thereafter. I did this, and it means I'm not paying tax, MOT, servicing and insurance all in the same week :-) 6 month tax discs are not usually very MSE as they are more than half the cost of a 12m one, but as a one off it worked well for me :-)

Why pay the extra for a 6 month disc when you can have the mot a month early?

That is another option but if you do it a month early then get a big bill doing, 6 month gives you a bit more recovery time.

Try being a little more organised and don't wait 'til the last min. to get your MOT done would be the easiest and most obvious solution, that said, as previously mentioned, you can drive (directly) to and from an MOT testing centre as long as it's a pre booked appointment.

As others have mentioned, don't leave them until the last day, my VED ended yesterday the disc was ordered over 2 weeks ago, the MOT ends at the end of March but I'm taking it in tomorrow,
the 'MSE way' to unsync them is to return the VED disc and order a current one, my VED used to be the end of March but I moved it forward to February.
