Update: i have another interview this week. I have too many interviews.
That's good! You are in a very fortunate position.
If another interview means better pay and condition, why not?
I think you are concerned about employer too much. Think about this, if a company goes through crisis, they wouldn't think twice about making people redundant. You are doing business, have business hat on! It's cut throat and this is how successful people progressed in their career ladder or made their company successful.
Sign the contract and work for one month and if you have to move on...so be it, that's one month wage for you until you can sign the next contract.

You may have not been 'looking for new job' when you told them yesterday but today you are...but they don't know that.

Thanks. Adding to that, the company is not doing too well. Reduced profits and reduced or no bonus, so he is not really tempting me to work there.

I will see what happens, all the jobs I applied to I ensured they were better paying that the company I have an offer for.

GMbabies, if I were to get another offer I would not work for the company I've worked at for a month. I would just decline the offer from the company I have already worked at.

    Hi sharp910sh
Sorry, I'm not quite sure about the timing of all things e.g. contract in hand, signed or not etc but I wrote my previous post as if you have already signed the contract and started your job.

No worries. I have yet to get the contract and if I do join it would be in August.

I have a problem. I need a reference from the company I worked for. I emailed the boss, he was surprised and told me to reconsider. I then replied no I will not reconsider, in a polite way and thanked him for the offer. He has yet to reply. I have 14 days.

If he does not give me a reference what can I do?

Why are you telling us that you have a problem?

We already warned you that this could happen, you decided to take a risk, if he doesn't give you a reference then you'll need to ask someone else for one, if you don't have anyone else then that is the downside of the risk you decided to take.

You need to know if he is going to give you a reference or not, before deciding what to do if he doesn't. So you need to ask him, nicely, perhaps with some explanation about why you chose the other job....perhaps a telephone call would help?
