laptop screen gone very dull

Options
Just switched on my laptop the screen is very dull can barely see anything on it. I was using it yesterday it was fine. I've plugged in a monitor on to it and can see very clear on the monitor but not on the laptop also i've done a system restore which has not cured the problem.
I want to try and sort it out if anyone can help otherwisei will have take it to a computer repair shop.
Thanks in advance

  • Hi, mine did the same, I had accidently turned the brightness down, I had pressed my fn key with the arrow across key.

Laptops have a very efficient light source to back light the LCD display. This is often the first thing to go. If the dimming was sudden then may be the power supply to the display or a connector. The display is expected to dim over time . Replacement/repair is often not cost effective. Get a written quote before allowing anyone to undertake repairs on your laptop. Get an understanding that you must be consulted before the work is done. J_B the laptop screen was dim when i started the laptop, there doesn't seem to be any loose connections on the laptop.

The brightness control key varies between laptops. On my old laptap it was the F6 or F7 key while on my new one it's the up arrow to increase brightness - they usually have sun like symbols on the correct key. However if the monitor is OK I'm not sure this would be the problem.
  • Hi, if you have your manual it will tell you in there, also as someone has said look for a picture of a sun on one of your keys its usually near your volume keys, good luck

Thank you for all your help. I switched on the laptop today and the screen is fine don't know what caused it or how it managed to fix itself I am just glad it is working fine now. :D
