Esure hidden charges

Review of Esure Vehicle Insurance

"ESure remind me of Ryanair - cheap but with 'hidden' extras"

I AM FURIOUS WITH ESURE. Took out an esure policy at a competitive price for my little Ford KA last week - start date yesterday. For the first time ever (am over 50) was asked to send copies, of counterpart driving licence of all named drivers including myself. My son has lost his, and my cousin doesn't possess one. My cousin (in his 40's) wanted to be removed from the Policy as he was buying a car. Esure said there would be a £26 admin fee, plus £26 additional premium required, and this was BEFORE the policy had even started. I offered to send them a copy of the photo card of my son, but no, this was not acceptable. I therefore chose today, to cancel this policy. As a result, even though I am in the 14 day 'cooling off' period, and esure say on their website cancellation is £26 administration fee in this period, I have been charged DOUBLE. £26 for the administration fee, and another £26 for the 'Underwriters Fee'. I.E. OVER £50.
DON'T GO WITH ESURE. THEY MAY DO CHEAP INSURANCE, BUT ANYTHING YOU DO WITH THEM COSTS FAR TOO MUCH MONEY.

Is there anything I can do to stop them taking all this money if their website says the cancellation charge in the 14 day cooling off period is £26?

Thank you

14 day cooling off, Is not a get out of paying for free card.

Admin charges and charges for time on cover where applicable still apply.

Almost all insurers have admin charges payable for any changes. Budget end insurers generally have higher charges than the companies that charge more initially.

If you dont make changes a cheap quote is good, Make lots of changes and it maybe better to pay more in the 1st place.

Cancellation charge is £26. The other charges are admin fees to amend the policy. Time costs money.

  • Hi, thank you for your comments 'forgotmyname'. However, when I see a price quoted by Esure on their website of £26 cancellation costs in the 14 day cooling off period - that's what I expect to pay. Not to be at the mercy of the person in their call centre who slaps on another 'fee'.

Not hard is it, your son should have applied for a new licence if he's lost half of it.
  • Beware, buried in the AA car insurance site is an arrangement fee for a policy of £28. This is not reflected in the Quotation as far as I can see.

They are all at it, Peoples choice another. would not let me set up online and to call them which I did, All was fine apart from price difference to which I questioned, Turns out they where trying to charge me for WAIT FOR IT "" , CALL CENTRE ADMIN FEE OF £12. Now we know why I was not able to set up online. I soon got that fee waived dam cheek.
  • Thank you for your comments Chopper Read. I do agree with you there, but why are Insurance companies asking for this Paperwork? I've never been asked to send this before in over 30 years of insuring my car, and did offer to send the photocard whilst my son and cousin applied for a replacement.

What I'm not amused at is all the 'hidden extras' they slap on, and the fact that on their webpage it said that the fee for cancellation during the 'cooling off' period was £26.

But will the photocards show you made a correct declaration regarding conditions? No and that's why they want them.

Its becoming more common now for insurers to ask for copies of driving licences.

Too many people not having the correct paperwork, Lost the paperpart. That will be the bit with 11 points endorsed on it?

Which someone accidently failed to mention when taking insurance out.

This happening too often it seems.

DVLA details are/should be online to insureres. No need for admin fee. The rozzers don't charge you an admin fee when the pull you up and check.

DVLA probably charge them for checking your details. Why do that when they can ask you to supply a copy for free.
