No , because the offer on the house which took us close to IHT threshold has fallen through and we expect to have to accept a substainially lower offer on the bungalow eventually

So sorry for your loss.
I have lost both parents within 18 weeks of each other so I understand how sad you must be feeling.
I got power of attorney for Mum and probate without using a solicitor. Probate is much less complicated than POA and the helplines are really good.
Solicitors will charge alot of money for something that is fairly simple. I swore an oath at the solicitors , cost about £5.
You have had some good advice on here, stay strong & take your time.
