Thailand in August

Hi all

Has anyone experience of what the weather will be like in Thailand early August?

We're planning a honeymoon and because of childcare issues we may be forced to go around this time rather than the original idea of waiting til nearer November for the rainy season to be over.

My fiancee and I have talked it over and we don't mind if it tips it down for half an hour to an hour then it's fine. But obviously we don't want to go if it's going to be tipping it down for half the day every day.

Looking at the packages it does seem a lot cheaper around that time so maybe that's an indication that weather isn't going to be great?

It really depends on where you are going. Thailand has some very big seasonal variations in climate between north/south and east/west.

    Here's a few pointers: http://www.travelfish.org/weather/thailand/august

Whenever you go to Thailand you have to be prepared for an instant tropical downpour. If you want 14 days of guaranteed unbroken sunshine then go elsewhere. However, unless you go somewhere in the very rainy season then it really shouldn't affect your holiday. The deluges usually don't last long so you just need to run into the nearest bar and watch the heavens open. And at least the rain is warm!

It's a tropical country so there's rain all year round. It's also around 30 degrees all year. Take an umbrella, and lots of pairs of shoes for when they get wet. (I have family in Bangkok)

Or leave most of the shoes at home and buy flip flops of which there is a cheap abundance and if necessary wellingtons, Thailand is not short of rubber in all its forms.
The only weather related constant is when the sun comes up and goes down, I have been there in April and its been 30 by 10 am and easily reaches 40 in that month.
Anyway isn't rain supposed to be romantic in such circumstances.

Flipflops are the way to go. If they disintegrate due to the rain then just buy another cheap pair. There's certainly no need to take "lots of shoes" with you as there places selling shoes on every corner.

Besides, if you are on honeymoon, then rainy weather gives you more of an excuse to spend more time inside. Nudge, nudge...
