I just found out my boyfriend and I qualify for hundreds of backdated working tax credits and further help each month.
How long does it normally take for the application to be processed and the funds to arrive?

hmm, it seems you can only get backpayments for 3 months if you have a child, or you were claiming income support.. so I was misinformed from the outset by the helpline. Nevertheless, they told me today that i will get paid on Friday.. (2 weeks later) not bad I guess...0 -
Are you both over 25?

To answer your question OP, if you have already been receiving Child Tax Credits then it would take just a week or two to add on your Working Tax Credit payments as technically you already have a valid claim (ie you're on their system, this is simply an extra element of the same thing and they just add the new payments onto your existing claim). When I claimed WTC on top of my existing CTC it was a fifteen minute phone call and the first payment arrived in my account combined with my CTC the following week.
If you don't already have any claim with them then I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it may take as long as 12wks to process your claim. I don't want to bang on about the flaws in the system but basically your paperwork has to join a very long queue before it is even looked at as a new claim... Sorry!0 -
