I have gone into format-indents&spacing-line spacing which is set to single my wife seems to think its still set wrong can anyone help?

Have you tried changeing the page sizes? messing with the line spaceing unless it has been formated using line spaceing it is proberbly formated to be on a page with narrow headers and margins.

Would they accept it in pdf format. OOo has a free pdf printer built in.

Is it a true Word document, that is .doc, file? OOo does a reasonably good job with those, and I would be surprised if it messed up something as simple as a CV. Could the file in fact be an RTF file that happens to have been produced by Microsoft Word? OOo doesn’t much like the RTF produced by Word, and tends to format it badly. If you have, in fact, been sent an RTF file, the solution would be to get it resent as a true Word document file.

I also find that Open office struggles a bit with MS Works documents which open but are muddled as the OP describes.

OO is very good for a freebie, but it's by no means "better" or even as good as MS Office, despite what the freebies fanboys claim.
I have some documents that I originally wrote with Office. Nothing fancy. When I opened them up with OO, 99% was perfect, but I couldn't get the remaining 1% to work. Even if I managed to somewhat make it look ok in OO, the formatting would be screwed up in MS Office.
You could say "don't blame OO". But at the end of the day, I do not write documents for me, but for others. And most others have MS Office and not OO. Therefore I now stick to MS Office, for which I have a licence anyway.

To summarise, I had the same problem, and ended up reverting to MS. I understand that's probably not the solution you are looking for.

Don't get me wrong. Again, for a freebie, OO is very good, but anyone stating that it's better than MS Office is a lying anti-MS fanboy/girl.

I suppose in a money saving sense OO is loads better than MS Office.

    But they are different

Well, I got a free licence via work. If you work in services or academia, chances are that you can get a free licence as well. And price is not all. How about you sleep under a bridge? You don't have to pay for it and a house costs several hundred thousand pound., so the bridge is better :p

In terms of saving money - yes it is.

But only that, which is why I reiterated your point about OO & MSO being different

MS Office has an ODF Add-in for some time now.

I can get the C.V. onto two pages but the presentation is still wrong I have altered margins and font sizes and got the same presentation set up but to do this they text is smaller.

Been informed that in word you can alter the font sizes in 0.1 increments so could alter the fonts to 12.3 for example but in OO that cannot be done so I think this is the problem.

Going to get word put onto my computer as my wife is starting a college course and wants to use this instead of OO.

    Thanks for the help.
