Deter them from doing what?
There are some plants which dogs are supposed not to like, but I'd say that smell is a pretty poor deterrent compred with a fence, or even prickles.0 -
Talking about smells which deter dogs what about smells which apparently attract dogs, did anyone see the one show last night they showed a piece about a high bridge in Scotland where several dog walkers had reported that their pets had taken flying leaps to their deaths? The theory is that the dogs had caught the scent of mink and as the parapet walls of the bridge were too high for the dogs to see the long drop they had darted off in pursuit of the mink and leaped the wall to sadly fall 40 or 50 feet to the gully bellow. I know that this doesn't answer your question but interesting all the same!0

There is a plant that's supposed to keep them away from your flower beds, but I've totally with Dave on this one, if you want to keep your dogs (and cats!) out of your plants the only way is a fence. My raised veggie beds have four foot mesh around them to stop my little darlings crashing through them or using them as a latrine.0

thanks.
i've also been advised to rub terracotta pots with vicks vapour rub (seems to be working!)
plant some dog-be-gone plants (coleus canina) and marigolds and citrus smelling plants.
in the meantime i've fenced off the flower beds with chicken wire and canes.
maybe i could house a mink in the opposite end of the garden??!!LIVE SIMPLY * GIVE MORE * EXPECT LESS * BE THANKFUL0 -
Depends what you want to stop them doing...
They don't seem to like prickly stuff, so Pyracantha, Cotoneaster, Berberris etc (spellings prob wrong). My dog LOVES Lavender and rolls around on top of the bush, lol.0 -

I have been looking to buy the Coleus Canina seeds online but having difficulty finding any - seems to be a few plug plants available but I would like to try seeds. Any thoughts?.0

Yes, if they worked as an effective dog deterrent, you'd probably have a lot less trouble finding them.0 -
Thanks,
Can anyone recommend an online seed company that may have Coleus Canina seeds. Seems like the main companies (T & M, Marshalls, Unwins, Dobbies etc) do not have them.0
