painting in pregnancy

Options
Hi,

I am 24 weeks pregnant and recently we painted our kitchen doors and tiles.
It wasnt too much work and took us one day to do it.
I didnt realise when we started the job but then one of my friend told me that i should not have done it as i was pregnant.
Now i am really worried. Will it cause any harm to my baby.

The paints were indoor paints and we kept windows open all the time. I was also wearing the mask and after the painting was complete, we left the house for 4-5 hours and then came back.

Please let me know if someone has painted during pregnancy and had similar experience.

Simran.

Hiya, I think this maybe comes from the days when paint contained lead as it could get into your body and cause problems with the baby (hence the reason you shouldn't strip paint in very old houses while you're pregnant). But modern paints are fine to use.

I had the urge to redecorate with both my first (now a healthy 6 year old) and this baby (due Friday...gulp...). The biggest danger is probably losing your balance and falling off the ladder.

    I didn't wear a mask either....

Did fall off the ladder though! (although not from very high up thankfully)

I painted, ate soft cheese and prawns, drank caffeine and an occasional glass of wine, and had 2 healthy babies. It was all easier before they drew up lists of forbidden things (I guess, dollop, that I have to admit to it being 'in the old days'!)

You are so right Wendy. My son will be 30 this year and my 26 year old daughter is having her first baby in August. We were blissfully unaware of all the dos and donts in the "good old days" but seemed to be able to produce healthy happy little 'uns.

The no alcohol business always makes me smile as I was actively encouraged by midwives to drink Guiness and Mackeson stout whilst pregnant and then whilst breast feeding. It was supposed to improve the milk. All the husbands would bring in bottles at visiting time in the hospital.

    How times have changed!

I painted my bedroom at 7 months pregnant - I ended up with front bottom piles!! It was all the going up and down the ladder that did it!! Just be warned in case "anything appears" over the next couple of days!! They did disappear as soon as my baby arrived. Best Wishes

I did a painting and decorating course while pregnant with my first child - was 8+ months when it finished. The instructor used to joke about using the paste tables as a delivery bed, lol. Son is now almost 14 and fine.
