If you are in Wales then I would assume your scheme is grant funded by Welsh Govt. The grant funding provides the LA or school, depending on how they are managing the scheme, to cover more than just your basic pay.

If you are in England is it a grand funded scheme?

You can contact your LA or union about it.

If you are employed by a private contractor who has won a contract with the council you can still complain to the council.

Next you'll be saying you had to pay for your own CRB check!

Thanks Poppy, I will be ringing the LA tomorrow. Nope, didn't have to pay for the CRB check as they already had one for me for another job I do for them. Probably would have had to if I got one especially for the breakfast club though

Thanks to all who replied. I have spoken to the coordinator for the area who has confirmed that I should be paid for the time I am on the course. Waiting for the HR team to call me back to confirm this and tell me where to get a claim form
