Yes it does, might well depend what the box is, Ive got a v+ box (and a Tivo) and I think its £5 a month extra. Might be different if you just have 2 V+ boxes.

When I upgraded to a v+ they just put my oringinal in the bedroom so i think it is just a XL box

The XL is the tv package, I bet the box is the V+ box. If it is £5 a month for a second box thats £60 a year, could you get rid of that second box. You called VM yet ?
  • Call and cancel all of Virgin Media. Cope with the basic TV channels!

It might also sound stupid but check your heating settings to make sure your boiler isn't firing up and heating your water unecessarily at different times. Cutting tiny corners all over the place will make a big difference!

A consolidating loan would definitely be a good plan if you can get one.

Tell virgin it is too expensive so you have to cancel. They commonly drop your monthly bill by half but leave your service the same to keep you as a customer.

If they don't offer it, freeview really isn't that bad.

Will this be guaranteed to work?

You can try it, no harm in doing so.

How far are you into the contract ?

How will I find this out. I've been with them since I moved here which is about 6 years.
