The 737 certainly cannot fly non stop from Vegas, even with a strong tailwind but don't worry, Norwegian didn't become the huge success that it is without having a Plan B. They have already plans to charter a Boeing 767 to operate the routes to the Far East and the US and I have no doubt they will. My only concern would be a change of timing for the flights, make sure you leave plenty of time if you are booking connecting flights at either end. Now if only our government had a Plan B , or indeed any plans........

Sorry I meant 767:o we used to fly MAXjet
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Reported elsewhere on the Interweb... Norwegian have announced they'll be leasing a pair of A340s from Portuguese airline Hifly to cover their new long haul routes.

Apparently bookings were so good, the 767 simply wasn't large enough. They have chartered two A340 aircraft through Hi Fly but their previous owners were Singapore Airlines and Emirates, so they should be in excellent condition

Thanks guys, in the end I managed to get a cheap Qatar flight from Luxor to Manila - £492 for the three of us.
  • I'm surprised less airlines charter planes like the World Airways MD-11. Shame really, really comfy planes, with huge windows.

I guess airlines charter aircraft primarily based on cost... For a European airline to use a US based operator might be quite expensive, with positioning costs, perhaps having to set up a European crew base temporarily etc.

Monarch used World MD11s many years back on Orlando flights, probably worked out fine using US based crew.
