Help re: Private Number plate
Options
Hi all
I know this might be a long shot but-
We brought a private number plate last year ( not a mega money one) and registered it with the car we had at the time,
in December we sold the vehicle to a dealer, when I told the dealer that we wanted to retain the private plate the dealer advised us that it would be a lot easier if he re-registered the car then send us the retention for our plate so we could register it onto the new vehicle.
Well it is now nearly March, not only did the dealer not send off the log book I had to fill a form out to obtain one but i am still awaiting re number plate, but every time I ring he always come up with an excuse, our last conversation we had he said tha the had sent to me last Wednesday.
I’ve still not received it
Does anyone know if there is anything I can do about this?

Maybe the fees are putting him off, & the forms of course. It's £80 to transfer or £105 per year to retain. I always find it easier if BOTH cars are currently taxed when you transfer, no need to worry about insurance in the right name for the right car etc.
Perhaps phone DVLA & find out where the V5 is?0 -
Thanks Tiger
I have spoke to DVLA, they never received anything from the dealers so I filled out a form and sent it off, dvla sent me a letter to say they are dealing with it and I should receive the log book in a week or so, it's just the number plate now, at the time I was willing to transfer the plate's ect, but the dealer told me not to worry about it as it would be easier for them to do it.
i just dont know if I can do anything about them or if they dont transfer looks like i would of lost them, am so narked about it:(, especially as I was willing to sort it0 -
I'd either keep on at the dealer, or let them know that you are willing to pay the fees & fill out the form etc. If you complete the form, &, if you are the registered keeper for both vehicles then I believe you could sign both parts? You do need the tax disc serial numbers from both vehicles though?
Are they both taxed?0 -
Hi Tiger
The dealer registered the car he got from us into his name straight away (he kept the car we traded in for himself),we had notification from DVLA letting us know that, but more annoying is that they bothered to send off the part of the log book that they needed to for the motor we brought, and as the tax was about to run out on the motor we pxed then I presume he would of re taxed it.
The Motor we got had a years tax on it.
Got home and have received the log book from DVLA
just want my number plate back0 -
So you have traded in your old car WITH your personalised reg. (although that's not what what you wanted)
I can only suggest communicating with the dealer, I guess you may just have to tell him that you will pay for fees.0 -
Are you sure that the dealer hasnt sold the car on, complete with plate?Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

It is your fault for not removing the plate before you sold it.
Do you have any proof that the sale did not include the number?
If not it is likely you will never see it again, sorry.0 -
Ok
