Ideal icos m3080 boiler

My 10 year old boiler has failed spectacularly - initially seemed "just" a thermistor fault but after several abortive visits by local firm (and 2 replacement PCBs!!) it has proved to be a meltdown of the aluminium casing due to insulation failure leading to the excess heat making a mess of the wiring looms.
Looks like a replacement boiler as replacement parts come out mega expensive- they have recommended a Worcester 24RI - anyone got an experiences good or bad??
Also recommended Magnaclean plus flushing of system and has priced for new pump circulator?

    I don't have a Worcester Boiler but I recently got a new boiler and looked at them.

    Worcester seems to have a good reputation on here. Lots of threats asking about good boilers and Worcester and Valliant often get mentioned.

    Do you really need a 24Kw boiler?

    The M3080 was the only size Ideal did at that time, so is probably why it was fitted.

    How big is your property?

    Thanks for replies;
    5 bedroom detached house -13 radiators (2 doubles).1 towel rail, and obviously, hot water. So you think I could get away with a smaller unit? If so, what make would be best??
  • WB are fine if you don't mind your boiler being made from plastic
    I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

    You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
  • Do the calcs using 'Whole House Boiler Sizing'. The boiler sizing apps on manufacturer's websites can oversize the boiler.

    +2 :T:rotfl:

    We have been asked to fit a few of these lately and they are just plastic! the flue outlet is a flippin nightmare to fit too.

    Vaillant are probably the best around at the moment, or maybe a Glow Worm (made by the same company as Vaillant but with an aluminium heat exchanger instead of a stainless steel one. If you can find an installer that is a member of their 'club energy' then you can get an optional 10 or 15 year warranty too.

    Oh, and we have had nothing but trouble from Ideal boilers, avoid them like the plague now :o

    Ideal:eek: We fit Vaillant and the Glow-worm Ultracom2 range as cheaper option (stainless steel heat x).
