Dell are confusing me (its easily done). I have received a new Dell and have created "recovery media" on 3 DVDs. Also created a "system repair" CD (hidden under Control Panel -> Windows 7 File Recovery).

Now Dell wants me to make a "rescue disk" and Dell say "Create a new Rescue Disk that will include all the necessary files to restore your computer."

My questions are
1. But I've already got the FACTORY partition on the 3 DVDs haven't I?
2. So is Dells "rescue set" just another copy of the FACTORY partition on disk drive/flash drive? (rather than optical media)
3. Is Dells "rescue set" the same as Microsoft's "recovery drive"
Thanks.
No wonder "normal" computer users turn to Apple (when they can afford them).

  • You do indeed have them all backed up so the rescue disk to create is unnecesary

HOWEVER, for the sake of a few pence for another blank DVD or two, having multiple recovery options is not a bad thing.....

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
  • My recovery partition was shot so windows repair, refresh, and reinstall all failed. I could reinstall from my recovery DVDs but that didn't fix the issue of not being able to do windows repairs etc. So dell kindly sent an actual os disc to do a fresh install which as its plain windows 8 and not via the backup and recovery centre should offer simple repairs in the future. V happy with the support I got.

I've been in a position before when I'd messed up the partitions on the disk.

I had made various backups but they didn't put the partitions back properly; and it was only because I'd created the equivalent of the Dell rescue disk that I could get them back to the way they should be.

So yes, I'd make the rescue disk...
