payment due on 29th February

Not sure where to post this, as it's a bit of a general question. If you are paid into your bank account on the 29th of each month, does anyone know what happens this month? Would you be paid on the next working day, ie the 1st March?

  • At every place I've ever worked, it's been the last working day before that date - i.e. 28th Feb in this case.

There may be places that pay a day later, but I've not come across any that do.

Everywhere I've worked, they have always had two rules:

    1) If the payment date exceeds the number of days in the month, pay on the last day of the month.

    2) If the payment date falls on a weekend or bank holiday, pay on the previous working day.

So I'm guaranteed that I'll have funds in my account by the same date every month.

If you are really paid on the 29th of each month, then perhaps this month you won't be paid, as there is no 29th this month.

Alternatively, they could pay the working day before, or after, or any other day they choose -- it's up to the sender, best to ask them.

P.S. What has happened in the past when then 29th was a non-working day?

Thanks for the replies. It hasn't happened before, as the standing order was set up only a couple of months ago. In our early morning haze it didn't occur to us at the time to think about February! Oh dear, will have to wait and see. Hopefully it's not the case that I won't be paid at all.

If it's a bank standing order, it will be paid the day before i.e. the 28th. However, if it's something like a wages payment that's initiated by a third party then it's up to the third party what they do.

Why just not ask the bank?

Unless it's the bank making the payment, they won't know. Best to ask the organisation making the payment. Hopefully, as it's the 28th, the OP will already have received the funds and know the answer to his/her question.

thanks all, yes the money did go into my account today. My worst fear was that being no 29th in the month I wouldn't get any payment.
  • I think you'll probably have to wait until 2016 as that's the next 29th Feb.
