Primus Overide promise

I'm sorry my first post here is a complaint....
The problem is this:
I signed up with Primus for Line rental last year - and not had any problems - before I did the switch I watched this site for reports regarding whether I would still be able to use an overide provider to make calls - this site for a long time - advised that there had been written assurances that overides would be allowed - I think the last one that I saw (which is now removed ?) stated that overides would be allowed up until at least Dec 2013.
Now the issue - I switched my Broadband to Primus around the end of January - had a few issues - which I solved myself - but I now no longer have the overides available - other than using a prefix (which is more costly) - and which I find very inconvenient - as I have all my phone contacts programmed into a dialling software program.
If I had realised the overides would be broken when I signed up to the Primus Broadband - I would not have done it - no one mentioned this - maybe they though it didn't matter - well I for one think it does - and it will still matter when my renewal date comes up...
Any comments from "Primus" - or MSE - it was mainly on this site's recommendations that I signed up with Primus at all....

    Dead Horse ? (flogging)
Over 300 views - does this not bother anyone else ? - even so - would have been good to see a response from the Primus rep explaining the issues ??

Why didn't you ask the question?
You cannot expect the flunk on the end of the phone to ask EVERY possible question to you!

Now if they said to you on phone or whatever, that your overrides could continue than that is a different matter.

But I suspect they didn't, I doubt the person on the end of the phone had any idea you were using overrides as it doesn't show up on your bill, how are they supposed to know!

I think you have to live with this as it is your mistake IMHO

Thank you Sirmaggie for you so helpful reply - and my apologies for being stupid - it must be something to do with my age.....

I was not aware that I had spoken to a "Flunk" - my application to Primus was carried out online - I also can't say I am familiar with the term "Flunk" - other than as a (mainly American) term to describe someone failing an examination.

I obviously was mistaken - as you say - but there were a couple of things that influenced my decision to subscribe to the Primus Broadband offer.

The first one was the endorsement by this site regarding the Primus offer - and the "written assurances" that overides would be allowed - up until at least Dec 2013. (that has now been removed I think?)

I have used this site as a source of information & advice for many years - and considered it to be a trustworthy resource - there may well be warnings somewhere on this site that all advice should be acted on with the utmost care - unfortunately - I have not seen them - I tend to take the advice at face value - I may have to re-consider that in future.

The second one was the fact that I had been a Primus line rental customer since July of 2012 - and had been using an overide provider with no problems during that time.

As there had been no problems using the overide provider while being a Primus phone customer - I mistakenly thought there should be no problem with Broadband - as I would still be a customer of Primus - only with the addition of a Broadband service - I wonder if I am alone in taking this view - or maybe it's just me that's stupid...

I can't help feeling that the Broadband & Phone Service I am now using was changed from the Phone service I received previously - and also feel that I should have been informed about this - someone at Primus must have known that the "new" service would differ from the old service - and that it would remove my access to another service I have used regularly for many years - if I had known this - I would not have signed up to the Broadband service.

Send a PM to Elliott, the new Primus rep on here-he seems keen to get involved with customer issues.

No phone company is going to encourage you to use an overrider as it's loss of revenue to them. I only found out about overriders since coming here. I wasn't even aware of them beforehand. If you are that dependent on them, it might have been an important question to raise with Primus first before you signed up for broadband. You can't take anything for granted these days with any company on a change of circumstances. I suggest you contact the overrider. For example 18185 suggest you do this if you find you are being blocked as they say they have ways and means of overcoming that.

If it's important, always ask first.

To assume makes an a55 out of you and me. :)

Sorry to hear of your problems and agree why should signing up to broadband affect your Override situation,I certainly wouldn't have thought it was necessary to ask the question.'Will it affect my ability to use the override number'.I also remember Martin saying he had assurances that override would be allowed up to the end of the year but must admit not sure whether it was end of 2012 or 2013

The issue appears to be that, upon activating broadband, Primus switch the line from (BT) WLR to their own (LLU).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Thank you - I did get a response from the "Ask Primus a Question" thread - asking for my email address with the hope they can offer a resolution - that was last week - & I've heard no more since then....

Would be interested to hear their reply. I moved house last year and took Primus with me as the LLU to own the line. Previously I had used a V4 box to automatically set up my overide provider (18185) before every number, and it always worked perfectly with Primus.

But after I moved, I couldn't get the V4 to work in my new house and it has always baffled me, especially after reading on MSE that they wouldn't block any overide providers.

So there may be something with people taking up new lines with Primus.
