Barclays Career Development Loan

I had a career development loan with Barclays, agreed and received in approximately May 2005.
I believe I finished paying back the loan end of 2007.
Without the paperwork in front of me I cannot be 100% but, even though the loan was taken out more than 6 years ago, it was settled within the last 6 years.
If I paid PPI on this loan, I do not remember agreeing to it, so I phoned Barclays asking for a copy of my Credit agreement. The gentleman said I can expect a copy within a few days.
I subsequently received a letter simply stating that "they only keep copies of these details for a maximum of 6 years and they apologise for the inconvenience".
1) Should I accept their first reply?
2) How should I readdress this matter?
ie should I write a letter requesting more than just a credit agreement?
I apologise for what is potentially a naive question - I have not attempted any PPI claim before and I do not have the time required to read through the wealth of information here. Any help appreciated!
