I don't know anyone in the Darlington area personally but I'd be willing to bet there's a few people on this site who may be able to help if you want to help yourself for free.
Can you tell us "exactly" what the error message(s) say?0 -
Yes let us have a stab at it first

I do not know much about computers, so think I might leave it to the professionals lol
I can be sat browsing sites and the machine will just close down and restart. It has been crashing a lot and some times im getting errors saying you have just recovered from a serious problem do you want to notify Microsoft. Last night it either crashed or restarted approx 7 times and eventually I just switched it off, the computer had been on for about 3 hours when it started crashing.
Im really not confident to mess around with things I dont know.
Gateshead is too far for me but thank you anyway.0 -
1- Does your system need updating, a visit to Windows Update will help.
2- Perhaps you could download and run some software to clean it up a bit, CCleaner would be a good start.0 -

Yeah, I second the use of CCleaner. I use it often.
*Sally*, have you run a virus check, lately? Or have you run a malware scan lately? These are NOT teckie things at all. Just routine housekeeping. If you want help here, just shout. It's cheaper than employing a pc engineer who's only gonna try and sell you something. Tell us more about the PC and what exactly is happening. We'll fix it between us...0 -
I do not know anyone with a PhD degree in computer science in your area, but I agree with tankard: you might have some dodgy program in there.
I'd run a full scan with an up to date anti-virus, and I'd also run Ad-Aware, Spybot and Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool (all free).
If none of those work, I'd consider a hardware problem (e.g. overheating).0 -
I did a virus scan and it was alright so my boyfriend has called into a shop and someone is going to take a look for me.
Thank you for advice.0 -

Just a word of warning .... often they simply reformat the drive and reinstall the software ... but you lose all your files/documents. So make sure you back these up first to a removable disk or CD that you keep, whilst the PC is away. Also, test the backup (preferably on a different PC) so you know you've copied all the files correctly.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac
