Mk2 focus or mk5 golf

Options
Pressure is on and I only have a few k!

So 3dr zetec mk2 focus or 3dr golf SE fsi/s fsi mk5? 1.6 petrol both

I think the SE fsi has cruise control as an extra but they're both the same ?

I'm going to test both but already had a mk1 focus

Focus meant to be slightly more nippy and fun to drive and better handling

Golf looks better IMO

Golf holds value better but at dirt cheap 2nd Hand prices it doesn't matter

Focus is cheaper - a year or so younger with more average miles

Any thoughts or opinions ?

Personal preference. I read nothing but bad things about the Golf so I'd go for the Focus. Like you say, the focus should handle better.
  • Genuinely pleased to hear that you are now looking at the Focus too.

    As you didn't seem too trusting of my advice, hopefully you will agree that Honest John is 'the man', he really is;

    HTH.
And that my son, is how to waft a towel!
  • Hah. I still wonder whether much of his findings are isolated anecdotal evidence

I really like my low sporty 3dr civic. Nice jump from my mk1 5dr ghia
But the thing that put me off was that I like driving a different make or model everytime I change car
Plus the golf v is definitely nicer looking than the bulky mk2 focus
Plus it's more common than the golf

Anyway I either spend the cash on a mk2 05/55 plate with 70k miles or an 04 v golf with more miles and with these apparent problems

I guess I'll lean to the focus and probably love it but hate the fact ill see it everywhere & it was my first car!

On the other hand get a £700 mk1 3dr zetec and put the rest in the bank for another car down the line...by that time that 700 may not be worth half that when I want to flog it to free cash for another ..

    +1

That 1.6 FSI engine gets bad reports.

I'd be running with the Focus 1.6 Mk2.
  • Any other gp 6 or so fun 3dr hatches or similar under / around 3.5k a bit different ? Before I join the masses with a zetec:rotfl:

    Corolla 1.6
    Mazda 3 1.6
  • Toyota have a rep as being a stronghold of taxi driver. Just naff.

Mazda 3 looks interesting, 1 in my price range so not too common. Are qualities as good as the focus or golf ?

That is because taxi drivers can not afford broken down cars.
    Be happy...;)
