Redundancy Question

I was told today that my position is 'at risk'. I will have been with the company for two years on the 6th April. I am 42yrs old. I am entitled to 3 months notice. Does the notice period push me over the 2yr period where they have to pay me redundancy pay?
Also, they are making my position as Key accounts manager redundant. I am the only person bringing in sales currently for our team. How can they do this? I asked my boss this question yesterday and he said, 'well, the designers can be the sales people'. Is that allowed? To make my position or job title redundant and then use others to do my job even though their job titles are nothing to do with sales?
Do they have to give me the 3 months notice as I have been there just under 2 years? Thank you, worried

If terminated early with PILON then only statutory notice(1week with less than 2 years) is used to determine the relevent date for redundancy.
Contractual notice period does not determine service for redundancy.
They can terminate paying compensation for the 3months notice not used
They can terminate you position and redeploy the tasks.
Use the consultation to show why you are worth keeping.
As they have to pay you 3 months anyways perhaps suggest a trial period where they take over or do some of the sales to see how they get on.
edit: again depending on contract there will be 6 weeks notice, are you getting the coorect holiday pay?0 -

As you would expect, the 'contracts will be full of weasel words' covering everything, and, allowing the employer to treat you as a vassal. On the bright side, you should have in your possession, a 'Job Description'. Equally the poor old designers, who are about to be lumbered with responsibility for sales, will also have a 'Job Description'.
Why not compare notes. After all, the technical guys will love what they do, and, hate the prospect of responsibility for things financial - especially if they may be 'next for the chop' - because of failure to meet financial targets.
The fact that your 'boss' doesn't appreciate the fact that expertise is earned the hard way, and, the various disciplines DO NOT easily cross the boundary lines, makes me wonder whether anyone would want to stay with the company you agreed to join.
For what it is worth. I went through two redundancies in my working career. Good always came of bad. Sure, those 'in between times' were tricky, but, you did meet some super people.
Good Luck, and, never return - even if they changed their minds. They hate losing!0
