I always visit Mevagissy when I'm in Cornwall. Very quaint place and I love to walk out to the far end if the harbour wall and watch the fishermen. It's also a pretty dramatic scene on a stormy day. Maybe it held the same appeal to your father
thanks deb. I've spent the night racking my brains trying to remember if Ive been there? thing is....he took me so many places and I was young, I don't remember itstrangely Ive got an urge to go and see the place now
......and what to do with the painting?
I might keep it for a while0 -

I never spend much time wombling but always seem to pick up a few quid a week. Had my best day ever today though as I called at sada on my way home just before 4 to get some milk. Had a womble in the normal trolley bays etc but couldn't find a thing. It suddenly hit me that with it being windy I'd be better off a the leeward side of the carpark where there are low bushes an sure enough there were quite a few. Gave me about £12.50 plus quite a few items for TCB/Quidco:)
I had my best ever wombling sesh in As carpark 2 weeks ago. I'd gone into Blackpool to pick up an ebay purchase for my OH. I drove past, it was a Sunday, it was dark, and deserted. I got 16 receipts....I think the total was around ) £12 ish.....it felt so rebellious:eek::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

Fairclaire welcome home
As to your mystery painting, maybe it was the artist not the subject that your dad bought it for. I know you said it was dated 1920 and a long shot but might be a link to the past somewhere there.
Have to get family tree sorted or just google the artists name.
My dads family were farmers and butchers and one day lambs started coming in stamped Billing river. Well long story short some of dads great great uncles had gone off to australia back in the day when you could claim land and they set up farming.
My sister later found that one was a widower and his mother left money in her will for his children to join him there.
Bubbs if you are reading this then yes there is a link to where you live but main farm house was in Lavendon.
There is a painting in my attic of an ex love. Its named 'Michael on the stool in the kitchen having a puff'. Joke is that when he is old and senile and in his nursing home he will see news article, painting found in house where local artist once lived. Who was the subject and what was the inspiration.
Michael will be upset that no one will beleive this painting done with such passion and meaning was of him.:rotfl:
With art you just never know.
