buying car no tax
I'm buying a 2nd hand car tomorrow which has 12 months MOT but has no tax.
2 problems.
1) I am disabled and get free car tax but this is currently on my existing car which will no longer be used from tomorrow and the tax runs out from Thursday at midnight. I'm assuming I cannot transfer this to the new car until I have the log book for the new car.
2)How do I tax the car without the log book being in my name.
I am buying from a dealer.
Any help appreciated.

The dealer can do the transaction, when I had this car the dealer sorted the 1st tax, I had to send in the insurance certificate, I couldn't take the car away before it was road legal.0

Pay the dealer to tax it for you.0

Because to get the free tax the documents need to be taken to a DVLA office.0 -
Changing the taxation class to Disabled from Petrol/Diesel Car can be done at your local post office. It’s only when changing the taxation class from disabled to another class do you need to visit a LVLO. The dealer who holds the V5 should be able to do this for you providing you have the necessary insurance and of course proof of being exempt. Apart from the change of keeper they also need to show the taxation change in section 7 of the V5.
If you are in any doubt pop into your local post office and hopefully they will confirm what I have said. When I was growing up my father would always tell me that my best friend was my pocket!0 -

Already have one of what? to change a car over to disability class you can go to the post office with your paperwork, once this is done any other disability tax disc you hold is null and void. If you dont have the v5c in your name then that is when you need to go to the dvla office or apply by postBe Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -

A FREE TAX DISC
And you must live somewhere different to us. We have always had to do it at our local DVLA office.
If you sell your vehicle or your entitlement ends, you should return the free tax disc to the DVLA. You can do this by sending it to DVLA, Swansea SA99 1AL or your nearest DVLA local office. If you post it to the DVLA send a covering letter with it. If you no longer qualify you will need to tax your vehicle in the appropriate tax class. You will need to pay for the vehicle tax.
Or if you sell one and buy another.0
