invalid link - thread gone AWOL

I have just clicked on a link from my daily email update to catch up on a thread on this forum, but instead of the thread I just get a page with a forum message telling me "invalid link specified". What does that mean?

Oh right, thanks, I thought I might be doing something wrong.....I'm not what you might call technically minded and I only just realised it was possible to receive a daily email update, so first time I clicked on a link from one
