Missing return (apparently)awaiting refund

I have a question on behalf of a friend.

They purchased an item just prior to Christmas for £70 (pc tablet 7 inch) on eBay. When it was used it was faulty. They contacted the seller on numerous occasions to say it was faulty and wanted a refund. The seller eventually responded saying that if the item was returned they would refund.

The item was returned via Royal Mail tracked, registered, special delivery. My friend heard nothing from the seller so contacted Royal Mail with the tracking number. They confirmed the time of delivery and a signature. They provided a copy of the signature. When my friend then contacted the seller again they eventually got a response to say that they have not received it. Royal Mail said they would look into it but eventually said they had a signature so no liability.

They have tried contacting the seller again but had in response. They are now over the 45 days for an eBay dispute now and eBay have suggested contacting the police which we are thinking probably won't help.

Any ideas as to what can be done?

Thank you:o

Not sure - but contacting Ebay/Paypal would have been a better idea than contacting Royal Mail.

Once you have gone beyond the 45 days 'allowed' for a dispute with ebay and paypal they will not be interested at all.

Your only chance here now is to go to small claims

I did suspect that may have been the case. Thank you for your help. My friend is going to be gutted.

Send a 'letter before action' giving them 7 days to refund. It will only cost you the price of the letter & recorded delivery.

I meant at the time- not after the 45 days were up.

As stated - once 45 days are up - only dealing direct and/or court can help.

I doubt very much the police would be interested.
