Just make sure you're not planning your second wedding before the first one has been paid off ;-)

Did your guests enjoy cheese & pineapple on sticks or did they prefer the stale sausage rolls?

There's no problem whatsoever buying a wedding on a 0% purchase card.

My pal paid for his holiday on a 0% card 6 months later it was all paid and I know there was no cheese & pineapple sticks in sight.

What a load of rubbish, apart from the fact I like those little sticks and the kids love em at the kids parties far more than the so called fancy stuff they get elsewhere lol, you can easily get a catered buffet with lovely stuff for very reasonable prices or do the lot between you and the family for steal so I think that comment was a bit uncalled for.

Its about not doing what you have done and thinking standard wedding fare and the "normal" way things are done. Forget inviting relatives or neighbours you barely know/see, the day should not be about showing off/a big party/look how much I can spend. So invite only those who you see on a regular basis and care about day to day, often this means a vast reduction in numbers. We had a small casual wedding and ev1 who came to the service or the "open house" we had later said what a lovely day it was and how it was so much nicer than the usual day.

Sticking it on a card is fine if you have the money or can save it in a couple of months, but life often gets in the way and to leave yourself with a debt you end up stuck with is asking for trouble. BUT at the end of the day its the OP's choice, we are trying to offer different points of view to help them surely :rotfl:

All the OP is wanting to do is slow stooze his wedding costs at 0% to earn more in interest and possibly cashback.

He hasn't said he needs to get in to debt to pay for the wedding, just that they'd like their money to work better for them, just the same as many other stoozers out there.

Pfff, my wedding's costing £1500 all in for a reception for 100 people and evening do and buffet for 200ish, and not a cocktail stick in sight. Lots of sandwiches, indian starters from the sweet centre, a few vats of home made curry and chilli, and a big fat delivery of pizzas.

Would rather spend on the honeymoon!

Have only read a handful of responses and most people seem to be banging on about the OP getting into debt. I think they just want to stooze the cash they have, and take advantage of a 0% deal. Nothing wrong with that.

OP, I'm in the same position as you in the fact that I am looking for another 0% card and already have Tesco's. I'd ask Tesco first if they can offer another 0% deal... you never know. I'm going to apply for M&S if not as I shop there anyway and I get to keep using the Tesco for other bits.

If you have 18 months to go, then you can still keep saving. Just make sure the card is paid off at the end, or prepare to balance transfer (for a small fee) and you put your money in a decent tax free account.
    Total Mortgage OP £61,000
    Outstanding Mortgage £27,971
    Emergency Fund £62,100
I AM NOW MORTGAGE NEUTRAL!!!! <<Sep-20>>

  • Maybe the OP would rather have a more classy wedding and have a sit down meal instead of a bbq or buffet on the cheap. Nothing wrong with stoozing and paying a bit more for a wedding to treat family and friends.

There have been 16 responses to this post (now 17!!) and only about 4 of them have actually been useful in answering the OP's query. This board (and the question) is about credit cards, not how to reduce costs for the wedding. I'm sure the OP will be regretting he mentioned that it was the wedding!

A lot of high horses in this thread it seems.

OP - personally I would speak to Tesco and explain you are looking for a 0% on purchases card, and see if they will offer you it. Having said that, 18 months is still a long way off - you'll be paying deposits etc now but a lot of the expense will only be incurred shortly before the wedding. If you get a 0% card now, you'll end up with 0% on the deposits for 20 months and 0% on the main expenses for 2 months. Who knows who will be offering 0% on purchases or for how long in 16 months time, when you'll actually be needing it.

You could cancel and re-apply, but you'd have to wait a certain amount of time (usually between 6 and 12 months, check your T&Cs).

You say YOU have already got one, what about the bride to be? Could she apply for one too?

You could also try asking Tesco if they will give you a new 0% purchase offer. I know some companies will do this but I've never had any dealings with Tesco CC myself. Worth a try though.
  • Thanks for all the help, (although some did miss the point slightly).
We are certainly not looking to get into debt just reap any small rewards that maybe available by juggling the money we have/are saving.
I will try my luck with Tesco as I really didnt realise you could ring and 'negotiate'.
    Sounds like a challenge.
    Thanks again

You've prompted me to post for the first time - I got what you are trying to do (I think!) pay for stuff now on 0% but put whatever you spend on credit cards into savings and earn some interest. Not sure how you factor the minimum paysments into this though?

I'll be interested to know if you suceed in negotiations with Tesco
