cheap blu ray player reccomendations

ok i have finaly joined the modern tv era and got myself a freaking awesome new hd tv for a bargain price (samsung 32es5500 for £340 including 5 year guarantee) after lots of research now i need a cheap blu ray player.

im looking for recomendations if anyone have any experience of a bargain one they have bought and are very happy with it.

it does not need to do 3d, it does not need to me smart ( have that on my tv), i just use the sound from my tv so no special audio connections required either howdever it does need to dvd upscaling they are my requirements.

ideally something around £50 quidish i know im asking alot but there is always a little cheap masterppeice out there somewere so any recommendations for me to look at ?

I wanted a cheap bluray player after i bought a new tv and moved the old 32 inch to the bedroom, as i run a PS3 through my main TV so have a sizeable bluray collection.

I went to Tesco and paid £40 for a sony bluray player that although isnt the greatest thing in the world, it upscaled dvds and plays blurays with no fuss.

    Try places like ebuyer.

http://www.ebuyer.com/363633-samsung-blu-ray-player-with-smart-functionality-bd-e5300-xu Is the cheapest, but also very reliable.

For cheap you can generally get a Phillips for about £50 (i've bought a pair of 3200's I think they were for about £50 as a secondary and a present), or a Panasonic from about £60 (the DMP-BD75EB is currently £70 at Amazon).

The Phillips have a bit of an annoying tray (not very deep so sometimes I don't put the disc in properly first go*), but can be made region free for DVD's very simply.

Remember to pick up a HDMI cable as well, you can generally use virtually any HDMI cable you can find if you're not going for 3D, but Amazon basics ones tend to be a good compromise between cheap (IIRC about £4) and reasonably good build quality.

*Although I am mainly using it by the light of the TV ;) (I tend to watch DVD's etc late night).

slighty above budget but you are getting some BLu ray films thrown in.

    Plus it is a Sony.

And it from richer sounds , so no issues with taking it back in the unlikely event of problems.
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

Tesco have a Blu ray Panasonic on sale at the moment, reduced from £75 to £60, bought it in store yesterday and works fine.

It's also on amazon for £65 player only, no films & going by reviews you have to buy the cables yourself. Comes up as an older model & some bad reviews - problems with iplayer, and discs not being read. eta: looks like it's B/region 2 only if you want watch imported bds/dvds.

If you get a Samsung one then you can use the TV remote via AnyNet+

Look at Samsung BD-E5300 with network capabilty and USB to connect a USB flash or HDD. £56 from Amazon

Your TV will upscale DVDs, it has to, it can only show things at its own native resolution.

The question will be if the upscaling is better in your budget blu-ray player or in your TV
