Benefits available to ex-pats?

Hi,

Me, my partner and my 2 year old son have recently moved from the UK to Malta as I was offered a new job.

While in the UK we received various Tax-Credit and other benefits but in order to move to Malta my partner had to give up her job back home. At the minute full time child care is not realistic for us without tax credit help so my partner can not afford to go into full time employement and is currently out of work completely.

I was wondering is there anything else expats are entitled to whilst living in other EU member states?

Our son suffers from cerebral palsy also so information on any medical entitlements we may have in other EU states would be extremely helpful too.

many thanks.

If you have paid enough NI contributions, ask the DWP for a form E106. This will cover you for Healthcare in your country for about two years.

If you are on Incapacity Benefit, you can continue to receive this when you become resident abroad providing you continue to meet the criteria for incapacity. Ask the DWP for a form E121 which will cover you (and your dependants) for free healthcare for as long as you are on the Benefit.

Form E121 also covers State Pensioners permanently for free healthcare.

The information I have given applies to EU member states; I'm not sure if it applies anywhere else (not sure if Malta is in the EU).

If you are working, you will probably be entitled to Healthcare and Benefits under the Maltese system.
